What is WSCAFE's roasted robusta coffee?
WSCAFE-branded roasted robusta coffee aka robusta roasted coffee, is roasted from green, raw, unroasted robusta coffee beans. We source carefully-selected green robusta coffee from different local coffee farms across Vietnam. As the country grows millions of tons of robusta per year, we have a number of choice of robusta coffee for meeting customer's different demand and request. Our finished roasted robusta products will be labelled under our brand name or customer's brand as for the 'private label coffee' service.
Robusta coffee has two types of roasting; that is, pure (espresso) roast and flavored roast. To our point of view, the roasting degree for robusta should have three main roasting profiles including medium roast, dark roast and super-dark roast.
Vietnam in particular has flavored roast as the main roasting profile for robusta. To do this flavored one, a producer might add caramel, butter, salt, etc. into it to make traditional Vietnamese iced coffee.
Our green robusta coffee beans are being roasted by modern hot-aired technology coffee roasting machines to create high-quality roasting batches for the world's local coffee customers.
How is the roasted robusta coffee made?
Roasting robusta coffee to some extent is easier than arabica. However, it also requires a professional attitude by roasting masters. There are some private techniques and know-hows to guarantee the roasting robusta coffee to maximize its wonderful characteristics and tastes. The brewed robusta must highlight the strong, robust and heavy-bodied taste as its nature.
Sourcing green robusta coffee
The majority of coffee plantation in Vietnam is robusta. Thus, we have a clear advantage to source any kinds, any quality of robusta coffee that we'd love to do. The company specially has "more room" to improve the quality and to pilot new batches of robusta coffee with local's partnered farms.
Roasting
Medium, dark and super-dark roasts are our most repeatedly roasting profiles. We often do the medium roast for foreign customers and roast it purely for making espresso while Vietnam's local buyers are keen on dark roast to make iced coffee and iced condensed sweetener coffee. Super-dark roast (with butter) will leak coffee oil and the fatty mixed tastes will make an extra-bold cup of robusta coffee for life-long drinkers.
Cooling, Degassing, Storing
Cooling, degassing, storing are important to roasted arabica. So do the roasted robusta coffee. A wrong or a weak cooling speed will lead to a batch of failure and you have no change to 'undo'. Degassing and storing must be carefully implemented especially for super-dark roasted robusta coffee.
Cooling: Because roasting robusta is different from roasting arabica, cooling robusta also needs a special handling. The robusta is heavy-bodied with a stronger structure, more resistant to heat and requests a powerful cooling at a short period of time.
Degassing & Storing: Like roasted arabica coffee, roasted robusta also needs a proper degassing to release carbon dioxide (CO2), and one-way valve to keep it always fresh.
Robusta's consumption is now growing very fast just because it is cheap, afforable and the quality is fairly good. Robusta is also playing an important role of global coffee production because it is very strong against global warming and climate change.

How is the roasted robusta coffee consumed?
As roasted whole beans.
The whole beans have been the main consuming style for roasted robusta coffee so far. Coffee beans have millions of cells of aroma and keeping them as whole beans will help to preserve the fresh aroma for a period of time. This also enhances the drinking experiences for customers. The whole beans are more popular for coffee shops and home brewing with coffee grinders.
In Vietnam, robusta coffee will be used as the best selling blending. However, for world's local coffee consumption, we see that robusta will be mixed with arabica to do a blending as robusta is cheaper.

Pre-ground robusta coffee powder can be brewed directly without grinding the beans. This will save your time and effortless. However, it requests a good package to keep the powder fresh as long as possible.
