Unlike arabica, robusta's three main roasting profiles are medium roast, dark roast and super-dark roast. As the robusta is robust, strong, high caffeinated, light roast won't interprete the main characteristics of robusta coffee.

What is WSCAFE's arabica roasted coffee?

WSCAFE's arabica roasted coffee or, in other word, roasted arabica coffee, is at first roasted from well-chosen green arabica coffee which is carefully selected and processed by our partner farmers. Currently, we are primarily sourcing arabica of Da Lat (Lam Dong, Vietnam) single origin. The commerical arabica roasted coffee will be packed under the brand name of WSCAFE or customers' brand if they request 'private label coffee' service. Roasted arabica coffee beans can be either pure roasted or flavored roasted, in which pure roasted is the most popular choice. Pure roast is also known as espresso roast that only coffee is being roasted and nothing added.

Espresso (pure) roast is the perfect method for making espresso coffee with espresso brewers. It keeps the most original and authentic tastes, flavors and aromas of arabica coffee.

Although there are many varieties of arabica coffee, i.e. original arabica such as Mocha, Caturra, Bourbon, Typica, etc., the main arabica of the world today is Catimor which is a hybrid of Caturra and Timor, another hybrid of robusta and one type of original arabica.

However, Vietnamese arabica is very very special; that is, it is a hybrid of Catimor and different kinds of original arabica including Mocha, Typica, Bourbon. As a result, it has unique characteristics of original arabica and the body of Catimor.

How is arabica roasted coffee made?

Roasting arabica is a difficult task just because arabica is more challenging to roast and it is very valuable. In our factory, only experienced, skilled roasters are eligible to take care of arabica batches. They must understand the beans and know which profiles work best for that. However, we can simplify them as the following simple steps.

Selecting Arabica green coffee

Coffee type: well - selected green, raw, unroasted arabica coffee beans.

Quality: harvesting time and storage conditions are also important to decide the proper roasting techniques.

Roasting

Roasting: Light, medium, dark or customized roast upon customer's request. However, the most suitable for roasting our arabica is medium roast which will contribute a balanced taste for a perfect cup of espresso.

Roasting time & fuels: Slow roasting or quick roasting must be decided in accordance with customers' requests and market deveopment orientation. Gas (LPG) is the perfect solution for roasting our arabica coffee beans. We always prefer gas.

Cooling, Degassing, Storing

Extracting and filtering are important steps which will decide the quality of the finished pure instant coffee. These two processes require experiences and precision. Overextraction or underextraction with the wrong pressure will definitely cause unexpected aromas and tastes.

Cooling: Cooling the arabica roasted coffee beans is very important. It prevents the roasted beans to be overcooked because after being suddenly dropped out from the roasting drums at about 200oC degree, the beans are still being roasted as a thermal inertia which will cause unexpected profiles. We equip industrial cooling trays with powerful cooling capacity to "cool" the beans immediately.

Degassing: Unlike other beans, coffee beans, especially arabica coffee beans need an effective degassing step to help the beans to "breath" and fully develop its aromas and tastes. Knowing how to do this is very important and makes the beans to be different.

Storing: We use degassing valve to store our arabica roasted coffee beans in order to keep it as fresh as possible during the transportation to our customers worldwide.

With years of experiences of roasting arabica coffee beans, we believe that roasted arabica is the best choice for arabica coffee because roasted arabica will keep the finest aroma and taste of it. Meanwhile, instant arabica coffee can be convenient but it is hardly able to maintain its sophisticated aroma and taste. Therefore, the quality between roasted arabica and instant arabica coffee is extremely different.

How is the arabica roasted coffee consumed?

As roasted whole beans.

The arabica roasted coffee beans are usually wrapped and packed as whole beans. The beans will be ground with grinders by customers at their homes, offices, coffee shops, and at any places when they need to energize with a cup of espresso. In a coffee shop, grinding roasted coffee beans is the most exciting activity to fill up the space with full of aromas and comfortable sounds. This is also a must-have checklist for every coffee shop. This way of consuming will give you the freshest cups of arabica coffee. However, you need a coffee grinder as a prerequisite.

As ground coffee powder.

Pre-ground arabica coffee powder will save your time and be convenient as you don't need to grind the roasted beans before brewing. And, of course, you don't need a coffee grinder with you. This is very helpful especially going out for a picnic. However, it limits your experience a little bit because you don't hear the sound of grind coffee beans. And it requires good coffee bags to maintain the freshness of coffee aroma.

How is the arabica roasted coffee packed?

In the comparison with instant coffee and coffee mixes, arabica roasted coffee has a less strict requirement for packaging. We see that in the markets other producers use metalized bags or simple bags to pack roasted arabica coffee beans. However, we recommend that you should use a liminated alu bag with degassing valve to 'lock the aroma and flavor' of your arabica roasted coffee.

Gusset bags, pouches, tin cans are the top popular packaging options for roasted arabica coffee. A degassing valve will be very beneficial to maintain the amount of aromas and flavors of coffee inside.
Recently, pour-over paper drips and drip bags are attracting more attention from new and young coffee lovers worldwide as they are easy to brew and travelling-friendly.
